“Not all readers are leaders, but all leaders are readers.” Harry Truman

Leaders are Readers. This is especially important if you are going to lead people from different backgrounds and walks of life. If you are not full of the Word of God (first of all), believers will weary you, so refresh your mind by reading the Bible and other books that edify you. If you don't read as a leader you'll end up repeating the same things, causing those who are listening to you to stop hearing.

"The Bible is the inevitable outcome of God's continuous speech. It is the infallible declaration of His mind." A. W. Tozer.

Pastor Lucky Siyafa, the Senior Lecturer at Fresh Hope Bible College has read a number of books in his lifetime and continues to read to add to his current knowledge, and needless to say this habit keeps him current and empowers him to bring the knowledge of the Gospel in fresh ways all the time. Having completed his first degree in Theology and gone on to further the same studies in a Masters, his love of the Word of God (which had long been there) was only made that much more magnified. He has recommended books over the years, and below are a few of those recommendations.
First and foremost, the Bible is the best recommended book by Pastor Lucky. There is not a day that he does not talk Scripture in one conversation or the next. Indeed, Jesus Himself says of the Words of God in his most dire need for food after fasting, "It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” So it is concluded that if Jesus Himself relied on the Words of God in the form of the Holy Scriptures (the Torah at the time) then who are we to contradict. For the servant (you and I) cannot be greater than the Master (Jesus). It is futile to esteem other pursuits above the Words that proceed from the mouth of God.
"Aim at heaven, and you will get earth thrown in; aim at earth, and you will get neither." C. S. Lewis
‘The Elementary Forms of Religious Life’ by Émile Durkheim is a book in which Durkheim explains religion from a different perspective (e.g. Totems and their spirituality) and it is a good Bible scholar especially if you are serious about your ministry, it is a very good reference. This book was recommended by Pastor Lucky as he introduced the Lesson 'Bible Doctrines' in Phase 2 - Applied Ministries.
'Understanding The Faith' by Jeff Myers is another good read...
'Systematic Theology' by Wayne Grudem...
"READING ENABLES YOU TO WRITE"
'Applied Ministries' by Pastor Lucky is a book that has been written as a result of the quality of teaching material from the Phase 1 and 2 of the Bible College.
